INVISIBLE WAR POSTER

Zanesville Business & Professional Women Partner With AAUW-Zanesville in Showing The Invisible War

The Zanesville branch of The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will partner with the Zanesville Business & Professional Women (ZBPW) in sponsoring a showing at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 27, of the documentary film, The Invisible War. The event will take place in the John McIntire Library Auditorium, 220 North Fifth Street, Zanesville, and  is free and open to the public.

After a 55-minute screening, ZBPW & AAUW representatives will be on hand to discuss, and to moderate discussion, regarding the most recent federal legislation involving sexual assault in the U.S. military. This sexual assault is exposed in The Invisible War (by Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering) and focuses on the powerfully-emotional stories of rape victims.

According to a Pentagon report covered by the Huffington Post in May 2013, “the number of sexual assaults reported by members of the military rose from 3,192 to 3,374 in 2012, while the department estimates that as many as 26,000 service members were assaulted, based on anonymous surveys” (Richard Lardner, 5/07/13). Female soldiers aged 18 to 21 accounted for more than half of the victims.

The Invisible War chronicles the women’s struggles to rebuild their lives and fight for justice.

The Invisible War was one of four feature-length documentaries nominated for the Academy Award in 2013, and it has been nominated for many other awards. Time Magazine called it one of the “Ten Best Films of the Year.”  Visit invisiblewarmovie.com for more information.
